GRANDMASTER ALEXANDRA KOSTENIUK
The Russian-Swiss chess player Alexandra Kosteniuk was born in April 1984 in Perm, Russia.
She first played chess with her father when she was five years old. Alexandra's father taught her the rules and always played an important role in her career. He was both her coach and her mentor. At that time, it was very difficult to find expert literature for children – so her father created special educational computer programs just for Alexandra and her younger sister, and encouraged Alexandra to train several hours every day. Her efforts paid off a short time later.
Main victories
Alexandra collected many victories in youth events, several times winning European and world champions among girls. At the age of 17 she reached the final of the women's world championship 2001 and became the vice-champion of the world.
She is the 2004 European women's champion, two-times women's Russian champion (2005 and 2016), 3-times silver medalists of the women's world rapid chess championships (2012, 2014 and 2016), two times women's European rapid (2015, 2019) and four times European blitz (2001, 2017, 2019, 2022) champion.
Together with the Russian National team, she is a 3-times winner of the World Chess Olympiad (2010, 2012 and 2014), Women's World Team Championship (2017) and 5-times winner of the European Team Championships (2007, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2017).
In 2021 Alexandra won the inaugural FIDE Women's World Cup, as well as won the Women's World Rapid Championship and took silver in the Women's World Blitz Championship.
