One token per movement

To guarantee this accessibility, each DuBois et fils automatic movement is given its own digital image — a DBF token. The DBF token is not only proof of ownership of the movement, but also the movement’s “virtual twin”, linked to a blockchain.

The connection to the blockchain opens up various advantages and possibilities. The technology creates transparency, protects against counterfeiting and ensures that the origin of this historical witness can always be traced. All relevant data on the movement and later on the watch are also securely stored on the blockchain.

The documentation takes place via your DBF token in an individual chronicle of the movement and can be fully accessed on our website from your customer profile.

In this way, we document the past of historical movements for you and equip them for the future. The original Swiss movement is kept by DuBois et fils for professional storage and maintenance. Later, your personal movement will become a limited edition, high-quality watch. 

World-famous Swiss invention: The Bidynator

Cap jewel, winding stem, sliding mechanism, cannon pinion, mainspring barrel and much more: an automatic movement consists of almost 100 innumerable, tiny individual parts, each which have to be precisely assembled in order to set a watch in motion in the first place. No wonder such an operation requires a great deal of knowledge, experience and sensitivity.

One person who had a special talent for the development and manufacture of movements was Friedrich Meyer. He started work at Felsa in Grenchen after it had joined with the Ebauche factory.  Felsa, founded in 1918, was innovative and produced early movements for wristwatches.

As a resourceful developer, Friedrich Meyer soon created and managed to patent his movements. The breakthrough came in 1942 when he launched the "Bidynator".  Now known worldwide, it featured a groundbreaking technique: a double-sided winding of the mainspring. Today, this winding technique is an important component of automatic wristwatches. The Felsa development of the "Bidynator" has had a decisive influence on all subsequent designs of automatic movements.

Among experts, the Felsa caliber 692 is considered to be exceptionally robust, resistant and reliable. DuBois et fils transforms these solid masterpieces of craftsmanship into new timepieces, revitalizing the craftsmanship that is deeply rooted in Switzerland and leading it into the future.

The historic original movements are not fazed by all these developments. Manufactured in Grenchen in 1948, Felsa's 692 calibers reliably tick to their designated rhythm. Now they exist not only in analog, but also in the digital universe.

Previous movements with DBF tokens

• Caliber AS-1895: In the summer of 2021, DuBois et fils put 330 tokenized movements on sale for the first time as contemporary witnesses of Swiss watch history. The AS-1895 movements were sold out after only four days. This gave rise to the DBF007 Diver watch collection.

• Caliber AS-1985: The popularity of historical A. Schild movements remains strong amongst watch fans. The AS-1985 calibers are appreciated to this day for their proven reliability, longevity and functionality. This series is also sold out: 330 watch aficionados are currently accompanying their tokenized movement on its way into a limited-edition DuBois et fils watch, soon to go on sale as DBF008.
