Features of a Diver watch

Diver watches have been around since the 1950s and are no longer worn just for diving. They even appear in various James Bond films. It is a popular version of a watch that comes with a functional, modern look and at the same time exudes sophisticated character.

Basically, diving watches are characterized by relatively easily recognizable features:

• waterproof and pressure-resistant wristwatch
• rotating bezel, counter-clockwise, to measure diving time
• Luminous colors on the pointer and index for readability even in poor lighting conditions

Case back

As the norm with Diver watches, the DBF007 doesn’t have a glass bottom. Thus, the historical movement ticking inside won’t be visible. Yet, anyone who buys a Diver watch remains connected to their personal movement via the individual DBF token — accessible at all times via our website.

The DuBois et fils family coat of arms with numerous elements is engraved on the back of the Diver watch. The three fir trees in our logo dominate the bottom of the case. They are not only a beautiful element, but also underline our connection to the DuBois family. The properties of the fir tree are symbolic of our current project: the fir tree is green year-round, grows up into the high mountains and is very robust against wind and weather. Fir trees dominate the countryside in the Jura and thus symbolically stand at the heart of the Swiss watchmaking industry.

Crown

The crown is a functional element of a watch. It can be used to set the time and wind the power reserve, two functions that are also indispensable to this Diver watch. It is to be touched and should therefore also feel good. The crown of the DBF007 is also very well screwed - to ensure the highest possible water resistance.

Further, the crown completes the look of a watch. With the DuBois et fils Diver watch, the crown is an eye-catcher and features a particularly high attention to design. The crown of the DBF007 is not content with being a detail: it wants to be seen. As with other models, the DuBois et fils fir tree engraving makes it recognizable.

Bezel

The DBF007 is equipped with a wide, unidirectional rotating diver's bezel. In diving watches, the so-called bezel only rotates in one direction. The watch is thus secured against unintentional adjustment. The bezel defines the time of the descent and at the same time shows the duration of the dive.

In our models, the bezel is particularly easy to use and gives good grip even underwater. In order to give the rotating ring a nicer finish and better quality, it is made of fine ceramic.

Hands and dial

Thanks to Superluminova, the Diver watch has excellent luminosity. The large round dots on the dial ensure that the time is clearly visible even under water. The diver's rotating bezel is also equipped with this luminosity.

Another distinctive component of the DBF007 with Superluminova are the hands. They are long and extend from the center all the way out to the edge. This design allows for particularly good readability of the time or the measured minutes under water.

Other special features

A small, respected Swiss company in the Jura produces high-quality watch cases for well-known brands. DuBois et fils decided to work with the company that is known for its precision work (see article "What does « Swiss Made » mean at DuBois et fils?").

This production site accommodated the design of the watch, among other things. Three examples:

• With the DBF007, the housing is not punched, but milled. With regard to the design of this collection, more options than usual were available (see article "Design process of the DBF007").
• The case rim is satin-finished on the side and polished in between. Apparent details with great effect, visibly worthwhile, despite the extra effort. 
• The extravagant facet of the DuBois et fils Diver watch creates special lighting effects. The sapphire crystal of the DBF007 isn’t cambered, but laterally ground by hand. It gives the watch its very own character.

From movement to design to production: the DBF007 is a Swiss Diver watch with many highlights. DuBois et fils has created a unique, reinterpreted version of this particularly valued watch model.

An AS-1895 automatic movement from the A. Schild SA watch manufacturer in Grenchen will tick in every DBF007. If you own such a caliber, you can assign it to a DBF007 model and thus decide in which watch your personal movement will be installed.
