Football and watches have a lot more in common than many people realize; especially when two partners like FC Schalke 04 and DuBois et fils meet up. Both are traditional brands with a long, eventful history which evoke overwhelming emotions. Each encounter is a special experience.
FINE SWISS WATCHES AND FOOTBALL
On Saturday, October 29, 2022, we invited watch and football fans to the Living Emilia venue in Düsseldorf. We welcomed Olaf Thon, a long-time player at FC Schalke 04, soccer world champion in 1990 and runner-up in 1986 as our guest. The relaxed conversation with Thomas Steinemann, CEO of DuBois et fils, was conducted by watch expert Thomas Gronenthal.
A WELL-ROUNDED EVENING WITH TWO HALF-TIMES
In two different half-times, we dedicated ourselves to a little journey around the ball and the science of chronometry over drinks and snacks. What does it take to get the round thing into the square thing?
- 1st half: Olaf Thon and Thomas Steinemann on what football and watches have in common as well as personal stages in the life of the football player. Moderated by Thomas Gronenthal, watch journalist and blogger.
- 2nd half: Personal test wearing of Dubois et fils watches, finger food and drinks.
SWISS PRECISION "AUF SCHALKE"
As the official sponsor of FC Schalke 04, DuBois et fils attended two games in the VELTINS Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

We were able to experience the similarities between DuBois et fils and football with some guests at the home match against SC Freiburg. The Schalke 04 fans made it a special experience. Although the team didn’t score any goals, the mood was exuberant. The game ended 0:2 for SC Freiburg.

Over beer, curry sausages and Easter bunnies we followed the game on that Sunday afternoon. In a cheery atmosphere we were able to make many new contacts.
Our DBF007 diver watches were viewable at regular intervals on the boards at the edge of the field, accompanied by the words "Swiss watches since 1875".
Unfortunately, Schalke 04 didn’t score any goals: Bayer 04 Leverkusen left the VELTINS Arena with a 0:3 win.

The exclusive DuBois et fils skybox is not only advantageous for overlooking the pitch: it also has an open view of the largest video cube in Europe!
At every home game, our watch commercial is displayed across the four screens in the middle of the stadium, which accommodates over 60,000 people.
The year as the official watch partner at Schalke 04 ends with the 2023 football season. We are very grateful for the special moments that we were able to experience in the Ruhr region with locals and guests from the area.
Whether football fans or watch aficionados: the topics of conversation and emotions were never lacking in every encounter.
