Ivan Rakitić was born on March 10, 1988, in Rheinfelden, Switzerland. He is a Croatian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for HNK Hajduk Split.

Rakitić began his professional career with FC Basel, where he spent two seasons before moving to Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga. After three and a half years in Germany, he joined Sevilla in January 2011. His impact at the Spanish club was immediate, and by 2013, he was named club captain. Under his leadership, Sevilla triumphed in the 2013–14 UEFA Europa League.

A SUCCESSFUL CAREER

In June 2014, Rakitić transferred to FC Barcelona, where he enjoyed remarkable success. In his first season, he played a key role in Barcelona’s historic treble-winning campaign, securing La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League. He scored the opening goal in the 2015 Champions League Final, becoming the first player to win the Champions League immediately after winning the Europa League with two different clubs.

Regarded as one of the finest midfielders of his generation, Rakitić made his debut for the Croatian national team in 2007. Over his international career, he earned more than 100 caps, representing Croatia at UEFA Euro 2008, UEFA Euro 2012, the 2014 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2016, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where Croatia finished as runners-up.
