A childhood dominated by football
Growing up, he wanted nothing more than to attend a football academy. One of the places where Lisandro Martínez had the opportunity to play football was near his grandfather's house, where he grew up.

From Argentina to Holland to England
Lisandro Martínez was born on 18 January 1998 in Gualeguay, in the province of Entre Ríos, Argentina.
A versatile and technically gifted defensive player, he made his professional debut for Newell's Old Boys in Rosario, Argentina in June 2017, having previously played at youth level for clubs Club Urquiza and Club Libertad.
In August 2017, Martínez joined Argentine Primera División club Defensa y Justicia and his outstanding performances attracted the interest of top Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam.
Martínez signed for Ajax in July 2019, where he quickly established himself as a regular. During his time at the club, he played an important role in the team's successes, winning the Eredivisie twice, the KNVB Cup and was voted Ajax Player of the Year (2021-22). His teammates at Ajax call him "The Butcher" because of his aggressiveness and use of his intelligence on the pitch.
In the summer of 2022, Martínez moved to his current club Manchester United, where he met his former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag again. Since then, he has won the EFL Cup (2022/23) with the Red Devils. Currently, the footballer wears the number 6 jersey for Manchester United. Lisandro Martínez has so far played in five of Manchester United’s Premier League matches this season.
